Things I’m looking Forward to this Fall

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, so let’s unpack some things that I can’t wait to watch, listen to, & wear this fall.

The chill in the air, the colorful foliage, the pumpkin patches and spooky decorations - autumn is truly my happy place and what I look forward to all year. When I think of autumn, there are certainly films, shows, albums, & more I associate with the season and make me feel extra festive. Here are some of my very favorite things that remind me of why fall is the best season:

  1.  Gilmore Girls

You already knew this was coming. Gilmore Girls is truly the epitome of fall television. It makes me want to transport to a quaint Connecticut town where I can sip coffee with the locals and walk around town all day. When I think of comfort fall television, this is the first thing that comes to mind. The combination of the show’s aesthetics, music, and fashion is giving autumn to the extreme and I eat up every second of it.

   2. Cardigans

Chunky, cable knit, wool - a cardigan is the perfect autumn staple piece. Not only is it super cute and comfy, but cardigans are seriously versatile; jeans, a long skirt, over a dress - cardigans look good with basically everything and can be dressed up or down. Catch me sporting my new cream ribbed cardigan every occasion this fall.

   3. Pretty Little Liars

PLL is another autumn must-watch for me. The spooky drama series is full of nostalgia, as this was one of my favorite shows in middle & high school. It’s a perfect binge watch during the season, not to mention the iconic halloween episodes (Adam Lambert on that train lives rent free in my mind). And who can forget Allison’s “Lady G” wig. Every time I think about her I have a chuckle.

   4. Pumpkin coffee

A stroll around town with a scrumptious pumpkin iced coffee in hand - I seriously couldn’t think of anything better. But let’s not limit this to pumpkin - maple, hazelnut, and cinnamon are fair game as well.

   5. Hozier self-titled album

While this is self-explanatory, let me dive in anyways. This album feels like crisp October air, driving with the windows down, a stormy night with candles lit and a glass of red wine. Highlights on this album for me include “Jackie and Wilson,” “Cherry Wine,” “Someone New,” “From Eden,” and “Like Real People Do.” In my opinion, Hozier is one of the greatest debut albums of this generation, and creates a divine fall feeling upon listening.

   6. Hocus Pocus

An ultimate Halloween comfort film, Hocus Pocus gives me the same warm and fuzzy feeling every time I rewatch. Set in Salem, MA, this visually aesthetic film is fun, campy, and truly an autumn classic for me and my friends. Watching this comfy in front of the fire is something I look forward to all year.

   7. Baking

Autumn baked goods are a huge highlight of the season. Pumpkin cookies, apple cider donuts, pumpkin pie, cinnamon rolls, and oatmeal cookies are some of my personal favorites that I plan to make this season. Since I am gluten free now, it will be interesting to find some new recipes I can try out! I will definitely be heading into Trader Joes for some inspo.

   8. Red (Taylors Version)

A quintessential fall album, Red (TV) has established itself as the sad girl autumn bible. From classics like “All Too Well” and “Everything Has Changed” to pop bangers like “State of Grace” and “Holy Ground,” what this album lacks in cohesivity it makes up for in infectious energy and well-crafted lyricism. This album is also home to some of Taylor’s best vault tracks to date, including “I Bet You Think About Me” and “Nothing New.” This project really has it all and makes for a stunning autumn soundtrack.

   9. Mystery/Horror books

While I love spooky novels any time of the year, they truly hit different in the fall time. My last read, The Quiet Tenant by Clémence Michallon, was an incredible debut thriller novel that I devoured on my bus ride to and from NYC. Next, I am diving into The September House by Carissa Orlando, which in its first few chapters is reminiscent of season one of American Horror Story. I am eager to make my way through this spooky read and hopefully pick up a few more this fall.

   10. Cleopatra by The Lumineers

This album feels like a warm hug and a good cry at the same time. It’s heartbreaking and equally as gorgeous - this album holds a very special place in my heart. “Sleep On The Floor,” “Angela,” “Cleopatra,” “Ophelia,” and “Patience” have all gone certified platinum in my headphones. The simplicity of the instrumentals on this project makes for a very sonically cohesive album, and one that autumn always leads me back to.

   11. Cider

Hot. Iced. Hard. Cider is truly THEE fall beverage for me. Enough said.

   12. Denim

Give me allllll the denim this fall. Every color, every wash, every piece. I’m talking denim jackets, skirts, and of course jeans & overalls. Denim will never go out of style, and fall is the perfect season to showcase denim in all its glory.

   13. Disney Channel Halloween classics

One of my favorite parts of the autumn season is nostalgia. As a kid, there was nothing I loved more than tuning into festive episodes of my favorite shows, and Disney Channel has some of the most iconic Halloween movies and tv shows. From the Halloweentown to Twitches series, they really outdid themselves in the DCOM category. Not only that, but halloween themed episodes of  “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody,” “Jessie,” “A.N.T. Farm," "Good Luck Charlie,” and “Wizards of Waverly Place” were defining moments in my childhood that I’m always eager to rewatch during the season.

Autumn will forever and always be my favorite season because of these things and more - I am ready and excited to devote myself to the spooky season sooooo soon.
