Social media that doesn't make me hate myself!

As of recently, I’ve been trying to be more aware of how the content I consume daily makes me feel.

Mindlessly scrolling through Tik Tok and Instagram has unfortunately become a regular occurrence these days. It’s very simple to be affected by messages on social media, which could be for better or for worse. In my case, I find myself doing a lot of comparison between myself and influences. Social media can be utterly discouraging. Scrolling past a beautiful model-looking girl onto the next thin, perfectly retouched influencer certainly gets to me sometimes. I’ll find myself wishing I looked more like these girls, wishing I have what they have, wishing my life was different and not being able to stay connected to the current moment. What makes this worse is that these platforms actually promote ‘pretty’ people and program ‘unattractive’ people out of their feed. I find it difficult to remain grounded in reality when I feel these idealistic pressures placed on me constantly.

In the case that you have also felt this way before, I’ve compiled a list of non-toxic influencers/social media accounts that make me feel good and fulfilled instead of sending me into an existential crisis for 2-3 business days.

@circaoldhouses

This Instagram account literally gives me the chills. I could scroll through this page’s feed of vintage homes for hours. This account finds listings of old homes for sale across the country and provides photos as well as a caption with history about the home. Talk about eye candy...

@taylorgiavasis

Taylor may be considered an influencer, but she is a rare find for me - someone on the internet who seems like a genuinely good person and uses Instagram to spread good. Taylor (who is married to Nash Grier) has two adorable children and shares her family's outings in Youtube Vlogs and Instagram reels. I enjoy Taylor’s chill and insightful attitude, her style, and peaceful editing style of her content. Her content makes me feel hopeful and excited for having a family in the future.

@brittany_broski

Brittany is basically a household name on social media at this point, and I will never stop supporting her. Besides being the funniest person kinda ever, Brittany has proved herself iconic in the media industry and has ventured into many projects over her career. She may be super successful, but my favorite content of her’s is still the burner Tik Tok account - iykyk. The real ones also remember her weird Zillow house videos with Sarah.

@graydoncutler

Graydon is my new Tik Tok obsession. He’s a Massachusetts boy who likes cwocktails and singing at impromptu times, so we're basically the same. He is laugh-out-loud hilarious and makes me feel seen.

@madelineaford

Madeline is one of the only Tik Tokers I keep up with consistently. Her page consists of content such as get ready with mes, updates about her life, poetry readings, and vlogs. What sets Madeline apart for me is her genuine heart and sweet personality - I could listen to her soft voice all day. She's a feminist legend with great style and a fellow ginger - what's not to love? She has posted many videos about embracing femininity and not letting men dictate what women feel, do, and say; I find her very inspirational and feel like we would be good friends.

@autumnalwood

This instagram page is my favorite art account on the internet. Her art makes me feel safe, warm, and nostalgic in all the good ways. The vibe of her designs is very ethereal, colorful, and friendly. Not only does she share her incredible work on Instagram, but this artist also sells her work on patreon and society 6, so you can have one of her beautiful pieces in your home. When I have ~money~ best believe I’ll have one of her pumpkin portraits in my room.

@chatsandreacts

This Youtube channel is every swifties dream. Bonny and Emily are two mega-swifties who post reactions to all things Taylor Swift (and other artists of similar taste) and have the most infectiously happy attitude I’ve witnessed on YouTube. When I watch their videos, it feels like I’m at a sleepover with my besties geeking out over new music. I love their positivity and insanely impressive knowledge of Taylor’s discography, life, and career in general.

Pinterest. Enough said...

It can be hard to have a healthy relationship with social media - I know that's something I'm struggling with currently. These are just a few accounts that I gravitate towards when I need to consume media that isn't hurtful in any way, I hope you check them out! If you have any influencers or channels you follow that uplift you, feel free to drop it below.

Thanks for reading and don't let the internet get the best of you!!
