My Emmys Fashion Review - They Can’t All Be Winners!

Published on 25 September 2024 at 19:22

So the 2024 Emmys...... happened apparently!! That being said welcome to....

To be totally frank right now - I did not know the Emmys happened until the day after they aired. When do they announce these things? I’m not too torn up about not tuning in because when it comes to awards season, there's really only one thing I actually care about - the red carpet serves and flops. I couldn't tell you who won the big awards the other night, but I am going to provide you with some unsolicited fashion editorial that may be entirely biased - but that's the fun part! Starting with the best dressed, here is my very *honest* Emmys 2024 red carpet review:

BEST DRESSED

  1. Ayo Edebiri

This pattern and color on her is everything. I loved that she kept her hair down and the simplicity of the makeup didn’t take away from this stunning gown. She looked absolutely gorgeous.

  1. Greta Lee

Is it kinda giving loofa? Absolutely. Do I love the originality of this silhouette? You bet I do. I’ve never really seen anything like this dress on anyone else, and I think she made this gown look elegant when it could’ve been a total miss. The simple hair and chunky earrings really just add to the glamor of this look. Not to mention the obvious - her face card has no credit limit.

  1. Meryl Streep

This pink suit actually has me in a choke hold. Again, this outfit could’ve easily looked messy or casual, but Meryl makes it look elegant and perfect for this caliber of event. I absolutely love this shade of pink on her and just in general.

  1. Yelena Yemchuk

I have no idea who this lady is but she devoured this bridal-esque Bottega Veneta moment. She looks like a warrior princess on her day off. I am deeply obsessed with this dress - the puff sleeves, the different patterns colliding, the mesh. It’s simple yet looks very elevated and glamorous - perfect for the Emmys! Really though I want to get married in this dress.

  1. Kadiff Kirwan

When it comes to menswear, it can be difficult to stand out and choose a look that is both original and on par with what is expected at an event like the Emmys. I think Kadiff took this challenge and laughed in its face. First of all - I am loving the sheer polka dot shirt underneath the jacket. The trousers are also interesting looking to me and pull the whole look together. He looks put-together and professional yet the look still has this sexy flare and character to it - something other men on this carpet should take note of!!!!

  1. Ella Purnell

Oh….. my god. I don’t even know where to begin with this look - it is absolutely stunning. She looks like a disco ball in the best way. The neckline cut of this dress makes it seem vintage - almost giving me 70s vibes. Her curly hair is also feeding into this 70s disco feeling the whole outfit serves me. I love how the dark maroon lip gives contrast to the bright metallic gown, as well as the matching silver/diamond jewelry. The fact that her nails also match her lip color - 10/10. This might just be my favorite look of the night.

  1. Kristen Wiig

This gown is so visually intriguing - I could just sit here and stare. I have never seen another dress that looks like this one, earning it a spot on this *highly coveted* list. Kristen also looks stunning & tan and her bob is bobbing.

  1. Brie Larson

Someone who is commonly on my best dressed list (in my head), Brie looks so cutesy and perfect in this Chanel gown. I always love a navy blue, and this color on her paired with the bows and silver gems create such a beautiful look. This is definitely something I would wear on a carpet if I was famous.

  1. Abby Elliot

This baby blue flowy-cape gown looks so gorgeous on Abby (who is this woman). Not only is the color super flattering on her, the way this dress flows like a waterfall off of her makes this gown even more interesting. The movement and silhouette of this dress really does it for me.

WORST DRESSED

  1. Naomi Watts

Girl, did we not have an iron on hand?? I love this color but seriously - who let her step on the carpet in this wrinkly mess?

  1. Reese Witherspoon

This dress is hideous. It ages her terribly and does not do her figure any favors. I normally think she looks great on carpets, but this is just downright ugly. Maybe she could get away with this 10 years ago, but not today.

  1. Sarah Paulson

Whaaaaat is happening at the button here babe? If it was just the long blue gown with the white bow, I would’ve given her some grace. However - this just looks strange. Not a fan - but I am a huge Sarah fan, don’t get me wrong.

  1. Nicola Coughlan

GIRL. FIRE WHOEVER PUT YOU IN THIS!

  1. Paul Rudd

BOOOOORINGGGG SNOOOOOOZE FESTTTTT

  1. Ricky Martin

EVEN MORE BORING!!!! WHAT ARE WE DOING??????? At least Paul's suit fit him!

  1. Amber Chardae Robinson

Oh no…. This is just not it. She looks like a failed Drag Race contestant. This is a VMA’s type look - not the Emmys babe.

  1. Shaquita Smith

What in the Fashion Nova…… Is this a 2012 prom? Absolutely not. Uglier than Reese’s trainwreck.

  1. Diane Lane

Diane won the match your dress exactly to your skin tone challenge. Seriously. Who set her up for failure? She’s basically camouflaged. I can't find where the dress starts and Diane ends.

  1. Guy Branum

I mean just look at the picture. I feel like I don’t have to explain myself here. Are we going to the gym or the Emmys, Guy? I hate this so much.

That concludes my Emmys fashion roundtable! There were some breathtaking looks and some dumpster fires - and I would'nt have it any other way. Who do you think was best dressed and worst train wreck?
